Hoot: The Owl in Trouble

This story is written by my son, Azka; almost 2 years ago.

Hoot: The Owl in Trouble

One day, Hoot the owl woke up from his sleep. It was around 9:30 pm.
He wanted to have breakfast and started looking for a mouse. He saw a little mouse, but when he was about to fly he heard a very loud noise. Like a thunder. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

When he looked back he saw 2 big giants. One was bigger than the other. The smaller one was like a normal human, but a lot bigger. But the bigger giant was so big. He was a thousand times bigger than Hoot. He had 3 eyes, 5 noses and 6 mouths. He had 12 arms. But what’s funny and strange, was that he only had 1 foot, shaped like a duck-foot. That’s what made the “boom” sound, because he was jumping.

The two giants moved very fast towards Hoot. Hoot looked back at the mouse but he was already gone. He tried to escape but suddenly, he was caught by the big weird giants with 12 arms. He tried to scream but his voice was not as loud as the giant’s jumping sound.

The giants kept running, taking Hoot to a big mountain. There was a big cave in that mountain and the two giants walked in.

“I’m so hungry, Big Kelakeloo”, said the smaller giant.

“Yes, me too, Big Gan”, said the bigger giant. “Let me put this owl in a cage and you go and prepare the hot water”.

Hoot was put in an old rusty cage. He saw one of the bars was bent and it made enough room for him to escape. But he didn’t. He wanted to wait until the right time.

Big Gan took a big pot and filled it with water. He put some salt, pepper and vegetables in. He then took some wood and started a fire, but Hoot thinks that fire is too small. It will take forever to boil the water.

Big Kelakeloo went back and asked, “Is the water boiled yet?”

“No, not yet”, said Big Gan. They then went to the living room and talked about the weather and about their giant friends.

Hoot was right. The water took so long to boil, that the two giants fell asleep in their chairs. Hoot used the opportunity to escape. He went out to the cave entrance, but it was already covered by a giant rock. It was impossible for an owl to push it open. He then came back to the kitchen and saw a fireplace.

“This fireplace must lead to the open air”, Hoot thought. So he flew up the fireplace, up the chimney. It was a long way up. As he flew and flew, Hoot was happy because he can feel the breeze of fresh air. But as he got closer to the top, he saw that the top of the chimney was a net made from steel.

“Oh no! This plan did not work.” Hoot kept thinking and thinking of a new strategy, but his wings got tired. He also saw the dark blue sky, start to become dark orange.

“The sun is up. The giants will wake up soon!” Hoot flew down very fast, went back to the kitchen and back in his cage. He pretended he never left the cage.

The giants soon woke up. Hoot knew that they would both be very hungry. He did not want to be eaten.

Big Kelakeloo woke up first and smelled the boiling vegetables.

“Big Gaaaan!!! Wake up!! The water is boiled and it’s time for breakfast!”

Big Gan took Hoot and put him on the table. He said “I am going to make an Owl soup… yummy”.

Hoot said, “You are so big and strong… right?”

“Of course I am…. “, said Big Gan

“How can you be full after eating me? I am 1000 times smaller than you”.

Big Kelakeloo heard that and thought “Hmmm…, the owl is small… it is not enough for two giants”.

“WE NEED ANOTHER OWL!” said Big Kelakeloo.

“Let’s go Big Gan… find another owl and we will make a 2-owl soup”.

So they went out the cave and searched for another owl.

Hoot had an idea.

He saw the fireplace and he saw a piece of wood. He put the wood in the fireplace and created a torch.

He burned the cave and fire was everywhere. He had to find a way out.
He saw the giant rock left open because the giants forgot to close it. Hoot escaped in time before the mountain exploded. Once he was out he saw the mountain erupt like a volcano.

When the 2 giants came back they were shocked to see their home gone. The whole mountain was ruined and was never seen again.

Big Kelakeloo and Big Gan cried like babies and the owl that they caught escaped and flew away.

After their tears dried, the two giants walked and jumped and searched for another mountain.

Hoot went back home, it was around 08:00 o’clock in the morning. It was time for him to go to bed. What an adventure.

Azka dengan White Barn Owl

Suatu Hari Hoot (baca: Hut, seperti suara burung hantu) bangun dari tidurnya. Jam menunjukkan pukul 9:30 malam.
Ia merasa lapar dan ingin mencari sarapan pagi. Dari jauh ia melihat seekor tikus, tapi sebelum dia terbang untuk menerkam, tiba-tiba ia mendengar suara yang sangat keras. Seperti suara halilintar. DARRR! DARRR! DARRR!

Waktu Hoot menengok ke belakang, ia melihat 2 raksasa. Yang satu besar, satunya lebih kecil. Yang lebih kecil, bentuknya seperti manusia tapi ukurannya besar sekali. Raksasa satunya lebih besar lagi. Dia 1000 kali lebih besar dibanding Hoot. Dia punya 3 mata, 5 hidung dan 6 mulut. Tangannya berjumlah 12. Tapi yang lucu dan aneh adalah, dia hanya punya satu kaki, yang bentuknya seperti kaki bebek. Karena itulah saat dia berjalan, dia membuat suara “DARRR” saat melompat-lompat.

Dua raksasa itu mendekat ke Hoot. Tikus yang tadinya akan jadi mangsanya, sekarang sudah pergi melarikan diri. Hoot juga segera terbang untuk melarikan diri, tapi raksasa dengan 12 tangan berhasil menangkapnya. Hoot berteriak meminta tolong, tapi suaranya kalah keras dengan suara kaki bebek si raksasa.

Kedua raksasa itu terus berlari dan melompat, membawa Hoot ke sebuah gunung yang besar. Sampai pada sebuah gua, dimana dua raksasa itu berjalan masuk.

“Aku lapar sekali, Big Kelakeloo”, kata si raksasa kecil.

“Iya aku juga , Big Gan”, kata raksasa besar. “Biar aku taruh dulu burung hantu ini di sangkar, dan kamu cepat panaskan airnya untuk masak”.

Hoot dibawa ke sebuah sangkar yang berkarat. Dia melihat salah satu jerujinya bengkok. Sepertinya bisa dia pakai untuk membebaskan diri nantinya. Tapi tidak sekarang. Hoot harus menunggu saat yang tepat untuk melarikan diri.

Big Gan mengambil panci besar dan mengisinya penuh dengan air. Dia memasukkan garam, merica dan sayur-sayuran ke dalamnya. Lalu dia mengambil beberapa batang kayu kering dan menyalakan tungku. Hoot berpikir, kayu itu terlalu sedikit dan apinya terlalu kecil. Pasti lama sekali untuk memanaskan airnya.

Big Kelakeloo berteriak dan bertanya, “Hoy, sudah panas belum airnya?”

“Belum, belum”, jawab Big Gan. Lalu mereka pergi ke ruang tamu dan bercerita tentang cuaca dan tentang teman-teman raksasa mereka.

Ternyata Hoot benar. Airnya lama sekali untuk mendidih. Saking lamanya, kedua raksasa itu tertidur di kursinya. Hoot segera keluar dari sangkar dan terbang ke pintu masuk gua, tapi pintu itu sudah ditutup dengan batu besar. Hoot berusaha mendorongnya, tapi tidak mungkin. Dia terlalu kecil.

“Cerobong ini pasti akan menuju ke luar”, pikir Hoot. Ia lalu terbang ke atas, ke ujung cerobong asap. Tinggi sekali cerobong ini. Semakin tinggi ia terbang, Hoot semakin senang karena ia mulai bisa merasakan udara segar. Tapi sesampainya dia di ujung cerobong, ia harus kecewa karena cerobong ini ditutup dengan jaring-jaring besi.

“Oh no! Rencanaku gagal.” Hoot berpikir keras. Ia perlu strategi baru, tapi sayapnya sudah lelah. Ia juga melihat langit biru tua sudah mulai berubah ke oranye tua.

“Matahari sudah terbit. Raksasa itu sebentar lagi pasti bangun!” Hoot terbang secepat kilat turun ke bawah dan segera masuk ke sangkar berkarat lagi. Ia berlagak seolah-olah tidak terjadi apa-apa.

Kedua raksasa akhirnya bangun. Hoot tahu mereka pasti lapar sekali. Dia tidak ingin menjadi mangsa kedua raksasa.

Big Kelakeloo bangun terlebih dulu dan mencium bau sayur rebus.

“Big Gaaaan!!! Banguuun!! Airnya sudah mendidih dan sekarang waktunya sarapan!”

Big Gan mengambil Hoot menaruhnya di atas meja. Dia berkata “Aku mau memasakmu menjadi sup burung hantu… enaaaak”.

Hoot lalu berkata, “Big Gan, kau raksasa yang besar dan kuat, kan?”

“Ya, tentu saja…. “, kata Big Gan

“Lalu apa menurutmu, kamu akan kenyang? Aku hanya burung hantu yang 1000 kali lebih kecil darimu”.

Big Kelakeloo mendengar dari jauh dan berpikir “Hmmm…, burung hantunya terlalu kecil… tidak cukup untuk 2 raksasa”.

“KITA BUTUH SATU EKOR LAGI!” said Big Kelakeloo.

“Ayo Big Gan… Kita cari satu lagi dan kita buat sup 2 burung hantu”.

Akhirnya mereka bergegas keluar dari gua dan mencari satu ekor lagi.

Hoot memiliki ide baru.

Dia melihat tungku dan mengambil satu bongkah kayu bakar yang menyala.  Dia lalu membakar rumah kedua raksasa itu dan apinya menjalar kemana-mana. Lalu Hoot bergegas pergi ke pintu masuk, karena kedua raksasa tadi lupa untuk menutup pintu. Hoot melarikan diri sebelum akhirnya gunung itu meledak.

Saat kedua raksasa itu kembali, mereka kaget melihat rumah mereka hilang dan hancur berkeping-keping.

Big Kelakeloo dan Big Gan menangis seperti bayi dan burung hantu yang mereka tangkap, terbang dan melarikan diri.

Setelah air mata mereka kering, kedua raksasa itu jalan dan melompat menuju ke gunung lain untuk membangun rumah barunya.

Hoot terbang kembali ke rumah. Waktu menunjukkan pukul 08:00 pagi. Sudah waktunya bagi Hoot untuk istirahat. Wah, petualangan yang menegangkan.
